The paper generalizes paraxial complex geometrical optics (PCGO) for Gaussian beam (GB) propagation in nonlinear media of Kerr type. Ordinary differential equations for the beam amplitude and for complex curvature of the wave front are derived, which describe the evolution of axially symmetric GB in a Kerr type nonlinear medium. It is shown that PCGO readily provides the solutions of NLS equation obtained earlier from diffraction theory on the basis of the aberration-free approach. Besides reproducing classical results of self-focusing PCGO readily describes an influence of the initial curvature of the wave front on the beam evolution in a medium of Kerr type including a nonlinear graded-index fiber. The range of applicability of the PCGO theory is discussed as well which is helpful for avoiding nonphysical solutions.  相似文献

We present a formalism which describes the spatio-temporal evolution of a gel submitted to an autocatalytic chemical reaction to which it is responsive. This theory is based on an extension of a hydrodynamical multi-diffusional approach of the gel dynamics, which is plunged into a chemically active mixture. Emergent and autonomous volume self-oscillation dynamics of the gel are obtained from the nonlinear coupling of the elastic deformation, the chemical kinetics and the transport phenomena, that take place in the system. We apply this formalism to a spherical bead of gel plunged in a Belouzov-Zhabotinsky oscillatory chemical reaction, for which Yoshida et al. have obtained numerous experimental results. The case of a gel immersed in an autocatalytic bistable chemical reaction is also considered. We show that such formalism describes the autonomous volume self-oscillation dynamics of the gel beads.  相似文献

The nonlinear spin excitations in an anisotropic helimagnet in the presence of a constant magnetic field are investigated in the classical continuum limit. The helical character is introduced into the model, in analogy with the twist in a cholesteric liquid crystal. After deriving a class of spin wave solutions for the stereographic representation of the Landau-Lifshitz equation, in-plane stationary spin configurations are obtained and their stability is analysed. When the external magnetic field is along the anisotropic axis, modulational instability is observed in the spin lattice, and when the external magnetic field is normal to the anisotropic axis, the spin configurations are unstable. The perturbed spin components show fluctuations in the tail region, while the velocity and amplitude of the soliton remain unaltered.  相似文献

In this paper, we study nonlinear embeddings between Banach spaces. More specifically, the goal of this paper is to study weaker versions of coarse and uniform embeddability, and to provide suggestive evidences that those weaker embeddings may be stronger than one would think. Many results in the theory of Gaussian processes rely on the eigenstructure of the covariance operator. However, eigenproblems are notoriously hard to solve explicitly and closed form solutions are known only in a limited number of cases. In this paper we set up a framework for the spectral analysis of the fractional type covariance operators, corresponding to an important family of processes, which includes the fractional Brownian motion and its noise. We obtain accurate asymptotic approximations for the eigenvalues and the eigenfunctions. Our results provide a key to several problems, whose solution is long known in the standard Brownian case, but was missing in the more general fractional setting. This includes computation of the exact limits of L2-small ball probabilities and asymptotic analysis of singularly perturbed integral equations, arising in mathematical physics and applied probability.  相似文献

We consider the infinite horizon risk-sensitive problem for nondegenerate diffusions with a compact action space, and controlled through the drift. We only impose a structural assumption on the running cost function, namely near-monotonicity, and show that there always exists a solution to the risk-sensitive Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equation, and that any minimizer in the Hamiltonian is optimal in the class of stationary Markov controls. Under the additional hypothesis that the coefficients of the diffusion are bounded, and satisfy a condition that limits (even though it still allows) transient behavior, we show that any minimizer in the Hamiltonian is optimal in the class of all admissible controls. In addition, we present a sufficient condition, under which the solution of the HJB is unique (up to a multiplicative constant), and establish the usual verification result. We also present some new results concerning the multiplicative Poisson equation for elliptic operators in Rd.  相似文献
